My original hope for the comments system on www.krishna.org was that the general public would ask questions about the articles we post and the devotees would answer these questions authoritatively from the teachings of Srila Prabhupada and thus the comments system would be full of Krishna katha (talks about Krishna) and would be a pleasure for all of us to read... Madhudvisa dasa (03-07-02)

Unfortunately, as it has turned out, the Krishna katha and preaching from Srila Prabhupada's books is very rare and instead we find a lot or argument and name calling going on.

I understand we can not do very much about the comments by the general public [except make the comments system a moderated forum--which is not really very nice] But I think the devotees could do a better job at preaching. If a member of the public makes some critical remark it is no good if we just make a critical remark back to him. If he shouts at us there is no point shouting back at him. We should remain cool and calm and with all the logic and intelligence at our command simply preach the philosophy of Krishna consciousness to him as we have heard it from Srila Prabhupada. If we do that and do it well and consistently and authoritatively then in time it will touch the heart of any member of the public.

The comments system is meant for discussing the contents of the articles we post on www.Krishna.org. It is generally not for discussing any political issues that effect only the devotees or relationships between different groups of devotes. Sometimes we post some political articles as we have with the gurukul issue and such discussion, if it is related to the article, is OK underneath that article only. But we have had devotees who every time they post a comment on any article who make it into some issue against ISKCON, or bring up the poison issue or the guru issue... So that is not what we want to see. If we post an article about ISKCON you can talk about ISKCON in the comments system under that article only. If we post an article about the poison issue you can talk about the poison issue under that article only.

We are interested in Krishna katha. That means talking about Krishna in an authoritative way. It means repeating what we have heard from Srila Prabhupada and what we have read in his books...

So I am re-starting the comments system now and I would sincerely ask the devotees to consider very carefully every comment they post and make sure it contains the philosophy Srila Prabnhupada has presented in his books, it is better if it contains authoritative quotations and verses from the shastra...

Please do not post one sentence comments. If you do not have anything substantial to say do not post anything. Every comment should be at least a few paragraphs and should be authoritative and say something related to the article it is being posted under.

Basically I am asking the devotees who post to the comments system to use a little common sense and understand that www.krishna.org is not an in-house website for devotees only. It is a preaching website for the general public. Most of our readers are members of the general public and we want to present them the actual philosophy of Krishna consciousness. We want to see the devotees preaching to these people. Explain the philosophy of Krishna consciousness to them. Convince them they are not the body, they are spirit souls, they are eternal servants of Krishna, that they should chant Hare Krishna and be happy!!

Don't expect them to automatically believe in Krishna or have any respect for Krishna or us. They don't even know who Krishna is! You have to convince them. Don't expect them to be respectful because no one is respectful these days! You have to convince them even though they may be quite irreverent in the beginning.

Krishna is all-attractive. He can attract everyone. He has attracted us so He can attract others also. We simply have to become transparent via-mediums for Krishna and Srila Prabhupada. Krishna is all-attractive so if we can just purely present the teachings of Krishna to the people who comment on the www.krishna.org articles they will also see that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead...

Of course you can not speak about Krishna unless you hear about Krishna.... I would request every devotee who posts to the comments system to please read all of Srila Prabhupada's books regularly and also hear his classes regularly. You can get all of Prabhupada's books on the "Complete Works of Srila Prabhupada" folio infobase disk at folio.bhaktivedanta.org and you can get all of the audio recordings of Srila Prabhupada at mp3.bhaktivedanta.org

So please get these CD's and use them...

Looking forward to seeing lots of Krishna katha from you on the comments system.

Chant Hare Krishna and be happy!

Your servant
